Downloading from the Internet Most state agencies and schools have policies regarding downloading from the Internet. It is strongly recommended to review those regulations before downloading any files on to your school's or agency's computers. This article is intended for home use for those not confident in obtaining files from the Internet but would like to learn how. Is there a file or program that you want to download, and you are just not sure how to go about it? Below are step-by-step instructions on the process of downloading from the Internet. The process is not a difficult one, but when doing it for the first time, sometimes a little guidance helps so you will know what to expect.
Making a Download Directory It is best to have one central folder where all downloaded files go. This way your downloaded files will be more organized, and you will know where they will be located. You will land in a tree view on My Computer. Press the letter "l" to select your Local Drive or C:. 3. Press "Alt-F" for the file menu, arrow down to "new," and press enter. Press the letter "F" for folder. 4. An edit box with a default folder name of “new folder” appears. You should hear, edit New Folder. 5. Type in the name you want to give the folder, like "downloads" or "my downloads," and press "enter." 6. You are finished. Your folder has now been created!
Downloading a File In most cases, the steps outlined below will work when downloading a file, but sometimes your Internet browser might act differently depending on the type of file; for example, if you are trying to download a text file, html file, or PDF file. The file name is automatically put into the edit field, so you do not have to type anything. 4. To make sure the file is going to saved in the downloads folder you created, tab around until you get to the "save in" combo box. If the folder named is the download folder that you created, then skip to step 9 below. 5. Press the down arrow to open the combo box. 6.
