CREATING, SAVING, PRINTING/EMBOSSING AND REOPENING A FILE on to a compact flashcard WITH FSEDIT ON THE PacMate QX

A.  Creating a New Blank Document for Entering Text:

1.     Press the start button.  This is located three keys from the spacebar's left side. 

2.     Press the letter p for programs.

3.     Press the letter F until hearing Fs edit and then press enter.

4.     Alternatively, you could just press f6 and be put directly into FS-edit.

B.  Saving a Document USING A compact flash card that can
     be used in a CARD reader on a pc:

1.    Open the file you wish to save, print or emboss.

2.    Put a compact flash card in the left hand card slot with the edge facing down.  You can feel a small edge on the card with your finger. The edge is used to grasp when pulling the card out.

3.    Press the f2 key found two keys from the spacebar's left edge.

4.    You are put on file by default.  Press enter on file.

5.    Arrow down to save as and press enter.

6.    Type in a filename.

7.    Tab to files of type and press the letter r for rich text format.

8.    Tab to the location list and arrow down to the storage card.   Don't press enter here.

9.    Tab to the folder location and choose one of your folders or none. 

10.  Tab to ok and press enter.

 C. Opening the file up on a desktop.

1.     Attach the card reader to the USB port on your computer.  (If you have Windows‑XP, the computer will automatically find the card reader.  If you have Windows‑98, you must install some software.

2.     Put the card in the card reader with the edge down.

3.     Open up your word processing software.

4.     Press control plus o for open

5.     Press alt plus the letter i.

6.     Press the letter r for "removable disc" or arrow down to it and press enter.

7.     Remember you must tab to files of type and set this for all and your file is sure to be seen by the computer.  Tab into the list view and locate your file. 

8.     Press enter and the file is opened.

 D. Printing from Your Desktop:

If you have the file opened as shown above, press control plus the letter p followed by enter and the document will print.

E. Embossing from the flashcard on the Desktop:

This assumes that the flashcard is in the card reader.

1.     Press the start button (windows key) along with the letter m.

2.     Press enter on Duxbury.

3.     Sometimes you are told that other files still exist, do you want to save or delete them.  Just press the letter n for no.

4.     Press control plus o.

5.     Press alt plus i.

6.     Press the letter r for "removable disc" or arrow to it and press enter.

7.     Locate your file and press enter twice.

8.     Make sure the embosser is on and loaded with paper.

9.     Press control plus t.

10.   Press control plus e.

11.   Press enter and the file should start embossing.

 F. Printing via an Infrared to Parallel Converter:

1.     Put the CF card in the slot on the back of the Pac Mate.

2.     Press the f6 key found in the top row of buttons to go directly to FS-edit.  The longer method of reaching this program is shown above.

3.     If you want to change the font, follow the steps below before printing.

A.     Press the menu key (second from the spacebar's left edge.)

B.     Press the down arrow until reaching "format." followed by enter.

C.     Press the letter f for font.

D.     You are now given some attributes you can add.

E.   Press the letter m for more. You are now given two font types, typically left on Courier New. Arrow down or up to Courier and leave it selected.

 E.  Press tab (dots 45) twice to reach size. Arrow down to the size you wish.  Typically, typing in a size, the Pac Mate doesn't readily accept that.

 F.  Tab to okay and press enter.

1.     Press the menu key again.

2.     Press enter on the default offering of file menu.

3.     Press the letter p.

4.     You are now asked for how many copies.  If you just want one, leave this alone and press enter.

5.     You are now in a combo‑box of two printers.  Arrow down to PCL Lazer.

6.     Tab once to "port." Arrow down until reaching irda. This step is only needed to do once.  The Pac Mate will remember this until it is changed.

7.     Hold or set the infrared eye around six or less inches away from the infrared port found on the back left side.

8.     Tab to okay and press enter.  This may take a few seconds so don't get discouraged.

 G. Embossing via an Infrared to Parallel Converter:

 H. Printing via an Infrared to Parallel Converter:

1.     Put the CF card in the slot on the back of the Pac Mate.

2.     Press the f6 key to go directly to FS-edit.  This is found above dot six.

A.    The longer method of reaching this program is shown above.

3.     If you want to change the font, follow the steps below before printing.

A.     Press the letter f dots 124 along with enter (also called enter.)

B.     Press f‑chord (dots 124‑chord.) You are given two fonts.  These are Courier new and Tahoma.  I leave mine on Courier new. So arrow down or up to Courier and leave it selected.

C.     Press tab (dots 45() twice to reach size. Arrow down to the size you wish. Typically, typing in a size, the Pac Mate doesn't readily accept that.

D.     Tab to okay and press enter.

4.     Press f2 found above dot two.

5.     Press enter on the default offering of file menu.

6.     Press the letter p.

4.     Press the letter f three times for FS-edit.

5.     Press the menu key once.

6.     Press enter on file.

7.     Press the letter o for open.

8.     Tab to location and arrow down to your storage card.

9.     Tab over to files of type and make sure it is on "rich text format" by pressing the letter r.

10.   Tab three times to reach the list of files available.

11.   Press the first letter of your file or arrow to it ant press enter.

12.   Press the menu key found second key from the spacebar's left edge.

13.   Press enter on the first choice of file.

14.   Arrow down to emboss and press enter.

15.   You are given a checkbox asking if you wish to "emboss as grade two."  This box should usually be checked.  So if it is not check, press the spacebar to check it.

16.   Tab twice and you find the copies choice.  You can just type in a number here or take the default of one.

17.   These next two steps are only necessary once on any Pac mate.  If it has already been done, don't bother with this step.  Tab twice to "connection." Press the spacebar and you are shown the ports.

18.   Arrow down and make sure "irda" is selected and then press escape.

19.   Place the infrared eye about six or less inches in front of the infrared port found on the Pac Mate's back left side.

20.   Make sure the embosser is loaded with paper and is on.

21.   Press enter and the Pac Mate will start sending information to the embosser.
