Using "FSEDIT" ON THE PacMate BX

CREATING, SAVING AND Printing/Embossing a File-Using Duxbury for Windows

A. Creating a New Blank Document for Entering Text:

1. Press the start button.  (This is just above dot four.)

2. Press the letter p for programs.

3.  Press the letter F until hearing Fs edit and then press enter.

(Enter is dot eight pressed with the little finger on your right hand.)

You are asked if you wish to use grade two in your file when opening a new file in FS‑edit.  This then allows you to enter text in contracted Braille format.  Just press enter for yes if you wish such a format. 

You are now in a blank file to enter text.

B. Saving a Document USING A compact flash card that can be used in a CARD reader on a pc:

1.  Put a compact flash card in the left hand card slot with the edge facing down.  You can feel a small edge on the card with your finger.  Face this down. The edge is used to grasp when pulling the card out.

2.  Press the F2 key above the dot two.

3.  You are put on file by default.  Press enter on file.

4.  Arrow down to save as and press enter.

5.  Type in a filename.

6. Tab by using spacebar with dots 4‑5 to files of type and press the letter R for rich text format.

7.  Tab to the location list, (dots 45 with spacebar), and arrow down to the storage card. 

8.  Tab to the folder location and choose one of your folders or none. 

9.  Tab to ok and press enter.

C.  Opening the file up on a desktop.

This assumes that you have put the card in the card reader.

1.  Attach the card reader to the USB port on your computer. 

2.  Open up your word processing software.

3.  Press control plus the letter o for open.

4.  Press alt plus the letter i.

5.  Press the letter r for removable card or arrow down to it and press enter.

6.  Remember you must tab to files of type and set this for all and your file is sure to be seen by the computer.  Tab into the list view and locate your file.  Remember

7. Press enter and the file is opened.

Printing From Your Desktop:

1.  If you have the file opened as shown above, press control plus the letter p followed by enter and the document will print.

Embossing from the flashcard on the Desktop:

1.  Press the start button (windows key).)

2.  Press the letter p.

3.  Press the letter d for Duxbury.

4.  Press the right arrow and then arrow down to dbtwin.

5.  Press enter on dbtwin.

6.  Sometimes you are told that other files still exist, do you want to save or delete them.  Just press the letter y for yes here.

7.  Press control plus o.

8.  Press alt plus i.

9.  Press the letter r for removable drive or arrow to it and press enter.

10.  Locate your file and press enter twice.

11.  Make sure the embosser is on and loaded with paper.

12. Press control plus t.

13.  Press control plus  e.

14.  Press enter and the file should start embossing.

SPECIAL NOTE:
You must have synchronized your device with a computer or have infrared abilities in order to emboss or print.
