VICTOR STREAM ABRIDGED GUIDE
Note: There is a new update as of the writing of this document to 1.1.5. It enables the Stream to delete files and read audible books from the audible site. This update file is available from the HumanWare site at the address shown below.

If you are using Window-Eyes, carry out the steps below to download the file.
1. Press insert plus tab.
2. Press the letter v, 7 times.
3. Press enter.
4. A file download box appears. Press tab until reaching the save button
followed by enter.
5. Tab to save in. It will probably default to the desktop.
6. Press "s" for save.
7. Once the file is finished downloading, the dialog box will be closed.
8.. Close out of the internet and attach your victor Reader Stream to the
computer via the USB cable.
9. Turn on the Victor Reader Stream.
If you are using Windows XP, a window will come up asking what you want to Windows to do. Simply press escape.
10. Press Windows key plus "m" to land on the desktop.
11. Press the letter c until reaching "ca_en-303VRC" and then press enter.
12. You will then be prompted for where you want to extract the file. It should
be extracted to the SD card in the Victor Reader Stream. You could just put the
SD card into your computer and extract the file on that disc.
If you are uncomfortable with this type of file, ask for sighted help or a more experienced person.
13. Once the file is on the SD card. You only need to plug in the Victor Reader stream and turn it on and the upgrade starts. You are reminded not to unplug the unit during updating.
If you put the file on an SD card from your computer, just put it in the unit and turn it on. The same prompts will come up on the Victor Reader Stream.
This is a lot to share before getting into the orientation and other features but it should be done. If you are buying the Victor Reader Stream after November, the update will probably be on the unit and no updating is necessary.
This new update allows for deleting books and reading audible books from the Audible book site.
Orientation:
Place the unit on a flat surface with the SD card facing away from you. The
buttons should be facing up.

Left Side top to bottom:
power/select button (when pressed will cycle between speed, volume and tone.)
Increase button (for speed, volume or tone.)
Decrease button (for speed, volume or tone.)
Right Side Top to Bottom:
headphone jack/lineout
external microphone
record button
keyboard layout on face, left to right:
top left button above number one go to note
top right button above number three go to bookmark
one bookshelf (When held for a second will go into the user manual.)
two scroll up
three delete
four move back
five where am I
six move forward
seven menu, navigation and time jump (one to ten minutes)
eight scroll down
nine playback mode
star cancel
zero info (when held down enters key describer mode. You can also remove the
SD card to enter key describer mode.)
Bottom center oval key sleep timer (Pressing multiple times sets the sleep
shut-off timer.)
bottom very left button rewind
bottom center button play/stop
bottom right button forward
Powering ON/OFF the Unit:
1. Press the button found on the top left side. You should hear, a one beep
followed by "Welcome to the Victor Reader." This button is also a selector
button for speed, volume or tone.)
2. Power off the unit by holding the select/power button unit hearing two beeps.
This is for around one second.
3. If you do not have a SD card inserted, the unit will stay in key describer
mode.
Locking And Unlocking The Keyboard:
Lock the keyboard by pressing and holding star.
Unlock the keyboard by pressing 1, 2, 3 keys in quick sequence.
Moving a Book To The Victor Stream
1. Connect the stream to your computer via the USB cable.
2. Move to the desktop and open my computer.
3. Locate the book you wish to move to the Stream. Remember as of November 26,
only txt, audible, and daisy books can be read on the Stream.
4. Copy the book to the clipboard.
5. Move to the Stream. This will appear in my computer as removable disc.
6. Open this drive and then open the text book folder.
7. Paste in the book and it is ready to be read.
If it is a talking book, put it in the talking books folder. Make sure what ever you paste to the Victor Reader Stream, you must put it in the correct folder.
Moving a Music File To The Victor Stream:
1. Connect the stream to your computer via the USB
cable.
2. Move to the desktop and open my computer.
3. Locate the file you wish to move to the Stream.
4. Copy the file to the clipboard.
5. Move to the Stream. This will appear in my computer as removable disc.
6. Open this drive and then open the music folder.
7. Paste in the file and it is ready to be used.
Recording Using The Stream:
There are two ways of recording notes. You can either
use the quick-record feature or use the standard procedure.
--- Quick-Record -- A Note:
1. press and hold the Record
button located on the right side of the player.
2. Once hearing the message indicating
recording has started, talk into the player's integrated microphone.
3. To end quick recording, release the
Record button.
Recording Using The Stream:
There are two ways of recording notes. You can either

1. press and hold the Record
button located on the right side of the player.
2. Once hearing the message indicating
recording has started, talk into the player's integrated microphone.
3. To end quick recording, release the
Record button.
--- Record a Long Message:
1. press the Record button
located on the right side of the player to start the recording.
2. To pause and restart recording, press the Play/Stop
button.
3. Press the Bookmark key during the recording to insert a
bookmark. This key is just above the number three. You will be asked for a
bookmark number.
4. To end the recording, press the Record button again.
5. Use the star (*) at any point to
cancel the recording.
Listening to Audio Notes:
1. Press number one (bookshelf button) until you reach
notes.
2. use the 4 and 6 keys to move from note to
note.
3. Press confirm when reaching the note you
want to hear and then press the play button.
