Hair styling during Activity Period - Girls Rule!

Learning about hair styling during Activity Period - Girls Rule!

Girls Rule!
One of the "Activity-Period" choices for third quarter is called, Girls Rule! The girls who signed up for this activity group have been learning about skin care, hair care, hair styles, nail care, hand and foot care, and application of make-up. The photos show students having their hair styled by some of the ISVI educators. They tried curling, straightening, rope braids, French braids, and experimented with different hair products. The girls are having great fun while learning!

3rd Quarter Activity Period - 2009-2010

Once again ISVI Educators have come up with creative ideas for students to learn and have fun at the same time. Students select which activity they would like to participate in. They participate in these activities from 3:00 - 3:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The activity offerings are as follows:

Book Club- Theater-style presentation of an entertaining book as it is read by a group of staff members.

New Year Celebrations Around the World- Students will discover many games, foods, and crafts that make New Year’s celebrations special all over the world.

Research Study Hall- Provides support for English III and English IV students who are required to write a research paper.

Study Hall/Reading Time- Students can use this time to complete homework or to read books for pleasure.

Where Did the Hot Dog Come From? Learn about the origins of some of your favorite foods.

Braille Art - Create pictures on a Braille writer

El Dia Del Juego (Game Day) - Students play various table games.

Girls Still Rule! - Learn about hair and skin care, and grooming techniques.

Walking for Wellness - Walking to increase fitness levels and to improve emotional well-being.

Role-Playing for Newbs- "Newbs" is short for "newbies," a gamer term meaning someone new or unfamiliar with an activity.  In this activity, students will get an introduction to role-playing table-top games, including using multi-sided dice, keeping track of personal statistics, and using one's imagination to navigate an environment described by the game moderator.  The students will play an action mystery game similar to a Sherlock Holmes story.

Smart Board Lessons- Students will learn to use some features of Notebook 10 software to create lessons.  Students should plan to have some homework if they sign up for this class.
