PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT AND HEALTH - 500

501 – Adapted Physical Education
Credit: .25 per semester (for all students enrolled as freshmen prior to year 2006-07)
Meets Daily (5 times per week)
The curriculum for High School students contains both individual and group activities. The focus is on the social, emotional, and overall fitness of each student. Activities in the curriculum include but are not limited to: swimming, weight training, fitness activities, tumbling, and gymnastics, jump rope, ball skills and various projectile activities, track and field, goal ball, beeper ball, rhythmic activities, dance, wrestling, aerobics, Raabe ball, climbing, and creative movements. In addition, the following tests may be administered to students: AAHPERD, AAU fitness test, TGMD, ARC swimming, basketball ten-shot, five-minute ergometer, and weight lifting maximum lift test on the Universal Machine for age appropriate students.

Requirements: Students are required to dress for class and shower at the end of class on a daily basis unless directed otherwise by the instructor. Students are required to wear the appropriate gym shoes. Students who require special equipment should bring such equipment to class with them (such as sports goggles, swim goggles, ear plugs, etc.)

502 – Adapted Physical Education
Credit: .5 per semester (for students enrolled as freshmen in year 2006-07 or later)
Meets Daily (5 times per week)
This course has the same description as #501. The credits have been increased to conform to PE credit in most Illinois schools.

521 – Health

An attempt is made to establish sound health habits and attitudes by including in the course the following topics: first aid, human sexuality, AIDS, mental health, drugs, tobacco, alcohol and nutrition. Also covered is physical fitness, personality, control of the body, the supply systems of the body and anatomy of the body.

522 – Health Modified
Credit: .5 per semester

This course is modified for students who have below average skills. An attempt is made to establish sound health habits and attitudes by including, in the course, the following topics: first aid, human sexuality, AIDS, mental health, drugs, tobacco, alcohol and nutrition. Also covered is physical fitness, personality, control of the body, the supply systems of the body and anatomy of the body.
