As our school year progresses I want to update you on our student body. We started the 2008-09 school year with a low number of students. This was due to graduating our largest class in recent memory last May. We had 16 young men and women graduate and move on to lives within communities across Illinois. I am pleased to share that as of right now we have 69 full-time and evaluation students on our campus. This is a 17% increase from our first day of school. I shared with several people before school started that based on the number of referrals we were receiving at that time I expected our student enrollment to be at 70 students once we got to November. We continue to receive referrals and I anticipate that our numbers will grow even further. Once evaluation students arrive on our campus they quickly realize the benefits of their instruction here that is focused on their unique needs of visual impairments. Not every student who comes for an evaluation ends up enrolling full-time. But it is safe to say that the majority of them do become ISVI students. It is good to see our on campus numbers climbing and getting back to levels not seen for a few years. When you add in our 54 Birth to Three students we service within a 100 mile radius, our total enrollment is at 123. These numbers do change as the year goes on and hopefully they will continue their upward movement. Having said this, I think it is a tribute to our staff here at ISVI who provide our students with all aspects of their educational and living programs. It takes a team to provide programs for day students and residential students that requires around the clock providers seven days a week. We have a staff here that cares about students and it shows in the supportive relationships that are formed when students arrive. I have said this before, and I am sure I will say it again, but we thank you for entrusting us with the education of your child and for your support of our programs here at ISVI. |
