On Line With ISVI

By Reggie Clinton - Superintendent ISVI

November 4, 2008

Last spring there was much publicity about a State Fire Marshall’s audit finding noting the windows in the Main Building at ISVI were out of compliance with fire codes. This raised concerns for the safety of students and staff in the event of a fire. There were also safety concerns due to the fact the current windows swiveled on a pivot point and could injure someone if they were opened forcefully.

I am pleased to report that two things have happened since that time. First, maintenance staff at ISVI installed temporary devices on the windows to bring them into compliance until a permanent fix could be done. The permanent fix was to install new windows in the Main Building. Second, the new windows have arrived and work has begun to install them. This work should be completed by the end of November.

As window installation work is done, classrooms and offices are moved for one day to accommodate workers being in the area to take out the old windows and install the new ones. Workers are able to do about eight windows per day. Thus, we only have to move two to four rooms for one day at a time. Staff and students have been very cooperative in being displaced for one day while this work is completed. Workers keep us posted on their progress and each day a new schedule is put out for the rooms to be moved the following day. So far the process has been smooth and the new windows look great!

I wanted to let you know this in order to keep you up to date with this work. Once it is completed at the end of November we will have new windows that are safe, efficient and operate easily. Thank you to everyone for your patience while this project is in progress.
