On
Line With ISVI
By Reggie Clinton - Superintendent ISVI
May 12, 2009
From time to time ISVI is honored to have staff and
students recognized for their outstanding contributions to various organizations
they belong to and activities they participate in. When special awards are
handed out the entire ISVI family celebrates the accomplishments that have been
recognized. Recently, our own Jim Raabe was awarded the Illinois Athletic
Directors Association Class 1A & 2A Athletic Director of the Year. Of course he
would be the first one to tell you that many other people behind the scenes
helped make this possible. But still his recognition cannot go unshared with
others who have an interest in our school.
Copied below is the article about Mr. Raabe that was
included in the awards banquet program. Our sincere congratulations goes out to
him for receiving this award and for what it represents for ISVI!
James Raabe
Illinois School for the Visually Impaired
James Raabe
has been at ISVI (Illinois School for the Visually Impaired) in Jacksonville for
the past 20 years, serving as a physical educator, athletic director and a four
sport coach. Mr Raabe received his undergraduate’s degree and master’s degree at
Western Illinois University, finishing his mater’s in 1986. He started his
career at Providence Catholic in New Lenox, and was there for two years as a
three-sport coach and physical education teacher. After that he left to go to
Hamilton CUSD 328 for five years where he was a junior high physical educator
and a high school wrestling/cross country coach. Mr. Raabe then went to Mac
Murray College to be an instructor for physical education majors and was the
wrestling coach. Jim’s most recent stop has taken him to Jacksonville, where he
and his wife resided for the past 20 years. ISVI is a school for visually
impaired students, and James’ interaction with the students is inspiring to the
community and the people within the school. As a colleague says of James, "His
commitment to the students at ISVI is an inspiration to me and to other athletic
administrators in Division 6." The community is grateful for all that Raabe does
for them. He is a past T-ball, baseball, and soccer coach for the Jacksonville
youth athletic leagues. In the school he has been a CPR
instructor, a North Central Accreditation Committee member, and an IHSA official
representative. Furthermore, he has given time in service to the IADA; he has
served as a Division 6 at-large representative and District 17 representative, a
strategic planning committee participant, and IADA mentor for two area athletic
directors. Raabe has proven to be highly competent and extremely professional as
the athletic director for the ISVI in Jacksonville, and its community is
grateful. Congratulations, James on being named the IADA Class 1A & 2A Athletic
Director of the Year!
