By Reggie Clinton - Superintendent ISVI
Recently the ISVI Advisory Council, in their capacity of representing the various stake holders of ISVI, was asked to research and submit to the Department of Human Services the school governance structure they feel is best for operating the school. This task has risen out of on-going concerns for the system ISVI is governed by, and must operate in, which creates sluggishness when attempting to keep the school moving forward. Basically the most recent issue that brought this to light was the lengthy delay before two educator positions could be filled. Hiring and procurement are two main issues that have been on-going for ISVI. Many who have a hand in obtaining funds for our school, and for maintaining programs and services, have now come to the table to discuss the issues and look at options that might be available. This includes ISVI staff, our local Representative and Senator, DHS Administration, the ISVI Advisory Council and the Governor’s Office. Everyone has stated they want a system that is best for the school and there has been good discussion to this point. But now the time has come where we must seriously look at the options that may be available and weigh the good versus the bad of each of those options. There isn’t a “perfect system” out there. Thus, the task at hand for the ISVI Advisory Council is to weigh the options and what they offer for improving the systems that must be navigated when operating the school. This is no small task and one that will take much effort and thought. Questions have already been developed and the research has started. I write this article to inform you of what is happening. Some of you may have already heard about this and others have not. Thus, we wanted everyone who receives this to be aware of recent events and the rare opportunity that is currently at hand. Nobody knows at this time what the final outcome may be. It could be the recommendation to move to another form of governance or it may be to remain where we are with improvements to the current structure if they can be done. Either way, there will be much more dialogue before a final recommendation is formed. |
