By Reggie Clinton - Superintendent ISVI
The new school year is now two weeks old here at ISVI. Students will be going home for the first time today for an extended Labor Day weekend. Students will return to campus next Tuesday and classes will resume on Wednesday. We have five new evaluation students with us to begin this year. It has been amazing to watch them and their skills improve in such a short time frame. One student in particular who received little instruction in Orientation and Mobility before arriving to ISVI has shown tremendous strides in their abilities. Even the student has commented on how neat it has been working with our staff and how quick the learning process has been since arriving here. Most new students go through stages upon arriving to ISVI. First they may miss home. That usually fades pretty fast as they make new friends and get involved with the activities available to them. They also may feel overwhelmed upon arrival. There is so much to experience that they dont know where to begin. As staff members guide them through daily educational and residential activities they soon become more comfortable. It is at that point their learning usually begins to take off in an upward direction. I am happy to report that we will have six more new students arriving on our campus September 3 when we return from break. Most of these students will be evaluation students. Hopefully the majority of these students will decide to join us and become full-time ISVI students. We predict that with the current rate of referrals our student body on campus will reach 70 by November. Thus, the new school year is off to a quick start. We are looking forward to a good year and hope that we continue to welcome new students to be a part of the ISVI experience! |
