January 2012 Update from Math Class
The students have been working hard! Many of the Independent Study students are working on test-prep to prepare for taking the AccuPlacer test, so they can head off to Lincoln Land. Geometry is reviewing slope and equations of a line. We are using white boards and tactile papers to plot lines and find the equations. The algebra class will be taking a hands-on approach to factoring, and starting to solve equations.
Consumer Ed. Students continue to work with the Computer Software called "Talking Checkbook". Each month the students deposit monthly class paychecks and pay their monthly class bills.
Factor Trees and Prime Factorization are the Math subjects to become proficient in this past month.
Pre-algebra and algebra 1 students have been working on solving equations and multi-step problems. Geometry class has been working on angle theories and properties of polygons. Advanced math and independent study students have been working on preparing for college using college level texts. All students have been working on graphing and making designs on the coordinate plane, compiling a "quilt" with their designs. |
