Student Council Members Meet Governor Quinn
On April 3rd ISVI Student Council members attended a Legislative Breakfast at the State

Capitol building. Muffins, bagels, fruit, yogurt and juice were enjoyed by everyone. Then the students had the opportunity to meet Senator Deanna Demuzio, and Rep. James Watson. They also had the opportunity to witness a press conference given by Gov. Pat Quinn and after the press conference the students got to meet Gov. Quinn. A group photo was taken. It was a very exciting visit to the State Capitol.

Many lessons learned in one fun activity------
This spring Mrs. Frisch gave her students pennies for each sheet of completed schoolwork, and extra pennies for good behavior. At the end of the day they cashed the pennies in for jelly beans. They also traded the pennies for nickels, dimes and quarters to learn the value of money. Lessons learned were; math skills, money identification, and value. At the end of the project the students had the opportunity to purchase something from a store that Mrs. Frisch created in the classroom. The requirement was that each student first purchase a gift for someone in their family teaching another lesson, generosity. Then they purchased a gift for themselves. Now that is a lot of lessons in one activity!

Mr. Thompson brings back movies in the auditorium
Mr. Thompson has fond memories of movies being played in the school auditorium when he was a student at ISVI. This was a popular recreation activity years ago. Thanks to Mr. Thompson for bringing the big screen back to ISVI. Popcorn can be found nearby in the teen center so lots of fun is in store.

Illinois Library Day at ISVI
I.S.V.I. celebrated Illinois Library Day on Wednesday, April 22, 2009 with an open house in the library. A Louis Braille display on loan from the federal government was the main attraction. Students enjoyed viewing and touching the different Braille writers plus reading the history of the brailler on the display.

Back by popular demand, the candy guessing jar was won by Nathan Lawson. The door prizes were won by David Koch and Michaela Wood. Students also enjoyed making their own book.

Refreshments were served while students listened to the talent show on the television. It was a fun day in the library!

Prom 2009 ----- "City Lights"
Prom was held on May 16th and the theme was "City Lights". Students enjoyed a dinner of steak and shrimp. Dancing followed dinner with Mr. Thompson providing the music. The King and Queen were Matt Lawson and Bria Franks. Prince and Princess were Bradley Matthews and Sabrina Graff. It was a very special event. The room was filled with beautiful girls and handsome boys.
