Visit from State Representative Jim Watson
On February 16, 2009 Representative Jim
Watson visited ISVI. He had lunch in the dining hall with students and then
spent some time in individual classrooms. Then students and staff gathered in
the auditorium to hear Representative Watson speak about his tour of duty in
Iraq.
While in Iraq he was involved in Civil Affairs teaching the people of Iraq
things that will make life better for them. He helped teach them how to build
roads, schools and government.
After Representative Watson finished speaking the students asked many
questions. They showed great interest in everything that Representative Watson
had to say.

Valentine’s Day Dinner and Dance
The students enjoyed mozzarella sticks with marinara sauce. Then salad was
served. The entree was a choice of mashed potato casserole or French fries.
Sparkling grape juice was the beverage. All of this was topped off with a choice
of chocolate mousse or red velvet cake for dessert. Dinner was followed by the
Valentine’s Dance with Mr. Thompson providing the music. After the students
enjoyed the music and dancing, cookies and punch were served. Special thanks to
Mr. Thompson and to the dining hall staff for the wonderful music, the wonderful
food, and the decorations in the dining hall.

Mr. Lincoln Visits ISVI
On February 11, an Abe Lincoln impersonator came to the Media Center
and read from a book about Lincoln to the classes of Mrs. Frisch and Mrs. Lyons.
After he finished reading, the students said the Pledge of Allegiance and sang
"Happy Birthday" to Mr. Lincoln.

"Four score and seven years ago......."
On February 12, ISVI classrooms participated in a nationwide simultaneous
reading of the Gettysburg Address. This was a once in a lifetime opportunity for
students. The event was organized as part of the celebration of the 200th
birthday of Abraham Lincoln, our 16th President.

Science Class Lab Work
Mrs. French’s Science Class has been doing lab work. In lab they have been
studying buoyancy, inertia, and simple machines. They used marshmallows to build
"bugs" using a "DNA" code to determine characteristics.
