Blind Vendors’ Christmas Party
The Blind Vendors’ Program sponsored another great party for ISVI students. This
year the residents of the Mary Bryant Home in Springfield were in attendance.
It was at the Northfield Inn in Springfield. A wonderful meal of roast pork,
roast beef, and fried chicken was served to the students, RCW’s and other staff
that attended. An Elvis impersonator provided entertainment and several
students sang songs for the group. The gifts were fantastic! The students
greatly appreciated the generous gifts, the bags of candy, and the bags of hats
and gloves.

2009 Holiday Program
The 2009 Holiday Program had an extra bonus with the presentation of a play
called “The Incredible Reindeer.” Staff and students worked very hard to put
on this play and they did an excellent job of entertaining the audience!
Following the play beautiful holiday music was provided by the Community chorus,
the Elementary Chorus, and the Concert Choir.
Angel Tree Party 2009
On December 8th the Angel Tree Party was held in the ISVI Dining
Hall. The event was for ISVI and ISD students. Santa Claus arrived as expected
and all of the students were very happy with the gifts they received. Gifts
included a guitar, ISVI hooded sweatshirts, clothing, and toys. Refreshments of
Christmas cookies and punch were served. This is an event that all of the
students look forward to.

Third Quarter Activity Periods
Once again ISVI Educators have come up with creative ideas for students to learn
and have fun at the same time. Students select which activity they would like to
participate in. They participate in these activities from 3:00 – 3:30 p.m. on
Tuesdays and Thursdays. They are as follows:
Book Club- Theater-style presentation of an entertaining book as it is read by a
group of staff members.
New Year Celebrations around the World- Students will discover many games,
foods, and crafts that make New Year’s celebrations special all over the world.
Research Study Hall - Provides support for English III and English IV students
who are required to write a research paper.
Study Hall/Reading Time- Students can use this time to complete homework or to
read books for pleasure.
Where Did the Hot Dog Come From? Learn about the origins of some of your
favorite foods.
Braille Art – Create pictures on a Braille writer
El
Dia Del Juego (Game Day) – Students play various table games.
Girls Still Rule! – Learn about hair and skin care, and grooming techniques.
Walking for Wellness – Walking to increase fitness levels and to improve
emotional well-being
Role-Playing for Newbs- "Newbs" is short for "newbies," a gamer term meaning
someone new or unfamiliar with an activity. In this activity, students will get
an introduction to role-playing table-top games, including using multi-sided
dice, keeping track of personal statistics, and using one's imagination to
navigate an environment described by the game moderator. The students will play
an action mystery game similar to a Sherlock Holmes story.
Smart Board Lessons- Students will learn to use some features of Notebook 10
software to create lessons. Students should plan to have some homework if they
sign up for this class.
It’s Messy, but it is Fun!
In Art Class students have been working with clay. Students are shown wedging
the clay to remove all of the air pockets. After the air pockets are removed
and the clay is formed into a ball it is ready to place on the potter’s wheel
and begin the creative process. When the desired end result is achieved it is
placed in the kiln which is an oven that dries the clay. After it is dry, it is
glazed and then fired in the kiln a second time. Students take great pride in
creating bowls, flower pots, cups, vases, or whatever item they decide to
create.
