Unique, cute, inexpensive, environmentally friendly Christmas ornaments are for sale for $3.00 each. They are being made by the high school girls in the Green Pod in Unit 2. They are made out of used light bulbs and are hand painted and decorated to look like little reindeer, snowmen, Santas, penguins, angels, and fairies. They are so cute! If you are interested in buying one please contact Unit 2 Residential Care Workers--Vonnie Anderson or Mary Nyberg at 217-479-4510. All proceeds go to the students and they will spend them on a great Christmas dinner in Springfield.

Mayoral Candidate Visits Mrs. William’s Government Class
After Barak Obama was elected as our next President students in Mrs. William’s class asked her if she could invite him to come and visit ISVI. Since Mrs. William’s husband is running for Mayor of Jacksonville she thought that inviting her husband would be the next best thing. The students came up with some very good questions to ask Mr. Williams and he was very impressed by the questions. Some of the questions they asked were as follows: Why did you decide to run for mayor? Is there a mayor’s mansion? How much does the mayor earn per year? Are you concerned about being the first black mayor? What is your favorite color? What plans do you have for Jacksonville? What can you do for this school as mayor? Every student had their picture taken with Mr. Williams and they each got to keep a copy of the photo.

ISVI Participates in Festival of Trees
Once again ISVI participated in the Festival of Trees fund-raiser for Woodhaven Hospice. ISVI’s tree is sponsored by the Illinois West Central Pilot Club. Mrs. Hauck’s pre-vocational class and the girls from Unit 2 dorm made decorations. Also, Mrs. Walker’s class made candy canes out of pipe cleaners. This year’s theme is “Reflections of Christmas”. Another Christmas —Another beautiful tree created by students at ISVI.

Snack Bar is Now Open!
On Tuesday, Nov. 15th, the snack bar in the Teen Center opened for business. The menu includes pizzas, cheese sticks, egg rolls, french fries, chicken strips, and hot dogs. More items will be added in the weeks ahead and will include soups, salads, and sandwiches. The prices are very reasonable. A great place to spend time just got even better with the addition of the new food items.

Pie Baking Contest
On Friday, Nov. 21st , the pie baking contest was held in the Teen Center. All of the pies were delicious!!!! Thirteen pies were entered in the contest. TLC’s sweet potato pie took first place and Unit 2's chocolate chip pie received honorable mention. One student made a great brownie pie and another made real whipping cream for the pecan and pumpkin pies.
