Hoops For Heart
The Hoops for Heart Challenge was held in the ISVI gymnasium on March 20th for four hours. Prior to the event, interested students were to contact Mr. Joe Lewey. Twenty-nine ISVI students from all age groups participated. The students traveled from activity to activity in the gym. Some of the activities included shooting baskets, hula hooping, jumping rope, and many more. The students had a wonderful time getting their game on! This event was a big success while raising money for a great cause! The funds the students raised went to the American Heart Association. Thank you to all staff and students who participated.

Hands-on Exploration Activity Period
Seven Jr. High students participate in hands-on exploration every Thursday with Mrs. Cindy Miller, Ms. Darla Chambers, and Ms. Katie Miller. The group is participating in activities related to bubbles, construction, magnets, water, rockets, levers, and simple machines. One specific period focused on buoyancy. Students had tubs of water and guessed which objects sank or floated prior to dropping them in their tubs. Some of the objects that were used were pennies, rocks, rubber bands, bolts, sponges, foam, corks, and clothes pins. The students all had a great time while learning about buoyancy. One student stated, "I had fun because I got to use my hands."

Library Fun
ISVI celebrated Illinois Library Day in conjunction with National Library Week on April 17th in the ISVI library. Teachers were encouraged to bring their students to the library to delight in activities in honor of Illinois Library Day. Mrs. Nancy Shive hosted the event to make students aware that coming to the library can be an enjoyable experience. There was a candy guessing jar where students were able to guess how many malted milk balls there were in a jar. Trivia questionnaires about the library were handed out. Four students were the winners of the door prizes. Some other activities included constructing book marks using various crafting techniques and digging in a "treasure chest" to find gold coins. One student was making a bookmark and said, "I like making things because making things is fun." Cookies and punch were served to all who attended. It was a fun event that taught the students that going to the library can be fun!
