Expanded Core Curriculum -- Information Processing
News from Mrs. Rowland’s Classroom
Mrs. Rowland's computer classes are continuing to work on improving speed and accuracy through timed writings, drills and daily exercises. Last week, students practiced punctuation keys; period, dash and backslash. While practicing and becoming more proficient with these keys, they incorporated the dots (periods) and dashes with an introductory lesson in Morse Code. This week, students are working on another "Hot Key" unit. They will prepare an invitation using their "hot keys" to highlight, Bold text, Center and Underline as directed in the exercise. |

Students Using Their
Keyboarding Skills
Pictured are ISVI students in Mrs. Hainds' Information Processing class
where they are learning keyboarding skills.
One student is using Window-Eyes and the other student is using Zoom
Text. Window-Eyes and JAWS are the commonly used screen-reading programs
used at ISVI. These two programs verbalize all text and commands
for the computer user. Students in this classroom who use the
screen-reading programs also wear headphones so they will hear
information from only their computer.
ZoomText is a screen-enlargement program that not only enlarges text but
also allows the user to change the contrast levels, shading and screen
colors to make it as user-friendly as possible for each individual based
on their visual needs.
ISVI is very fortunate to have the latest in assistive technology
equipment for the students' use.
