Braille Sports Car Rally

This year at the "ISVI Race Way," all navigator and driver teams embarked upon an exciting journey designed by ISVI O&M specialist, Josh Dugan, that took these teams a little over an hour to complete the course. While the navigators were hopping to beat their competition on the ISVI Student reading Braille to navigate for his drive during the 2006 Braille Sports Car Rally.road, some supporters back home were "putting the hammer down" while attempting to turn a demolition car into a compact pile of scrap metal using a 12-pound sledge hammer. The demolished car was donated by the Star Cab Company.

An additional highlight of the Rally involved the ISVI Parent ISVI students in car starting Sports Car RallyOrganization as they hosted a flea market in ISVI’s gymnasium. Approximately 15 vendors participated in the event as students enjoyed visiting the booths where they got some great bargains. The event was organized by Tracy Orr, president of the parent organization. Serena Preston, ISVI educator, organized the basket fund raiser. A big thank you goes to all who assisted with the fund raiser and to those who bought tickets for the raffle as parent organization fund raiser earned approximately $900!

All during the week, prior to the event, students were excited about the sports car rally and could be heard expressing how much they were looking forward to participating. The mayor of Jacksonville, Ron Tendick, was one of the drivers. Students sat proudly in the cars as they ISVI student checking out car in Braille Sports Car Rallynavigated their drivers through the course. Several ISVI parents were on campus and able to participate in the event with their children. A large crowd cheered each team as they took off and again upon their arrival back to campus. What a wonderful experience for these students.

ISVI's Dietary Department out did themselves with a picnic lunch enjoyed by everyone present. The Franklin Lions Club donated cotton candy for the event. Staff member, Dan Thompson, organized the Car Rally with the assistance of his committee members.ISVI student getting out of an antique car
